Joe Kraus: If You Don't Think You Need It, You Haven't Seen Greatness. One thing I can hear with some regularity from a small founding team is something like “we don’t think we need a marketing person” or “we’re not going to hire a product manager”. Those aren’t the only positions I hear that statement for. I hear it for PR, marketing, HR and sometimes BD. (more)
W Edwards Deming: I should estimate that in my experience most troubles and most possibilities for improvement add up to the proportions something like this: 94% belongs to the system (responsibility of management), 6% special (individual/blame/credit). (from Out of the Crisis) (more)

Improving Deep Sleep May Prevent Dementia, Study Finds. As little as 1 per cent reduction in deep sleep per year for people over 60 years of age translates into a 27 per cent increased risk of dementia, according to a Monash study which suggests that enhancing or maintaining deep sleep, also known as slow wave sleep, in older years could stave off dementia. Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disease that usually starts slowly and progressively worsens.[2] It is the cause of 60–70% of cases of dementia.[2][11] The most common early symptom is difficulty in remembering recent events.[1] As the disease advances, symptoms can include problems with language, disorientation (including easily getting lost), mood swings, loss of motivation, self-neglect, and behavioral issues.[2] As a person's condition declines, they often withdraw from family and society.[12] Gradually, bodily functions are lost, ultimately leading to death.[13] Although the speed of progression can vary, the typical life expectancy following diagnosis is three to nine years. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alzheimer%27s_disease

Jeff Jordon: Wonderschool. I’ve had a front row seat to a set of companies where new technologies have immediately created new streams of income for millions of people. These companies typically enable (what Airbnb founder Brian Chesky refers to as) “micro-entrepreneurs” (micropreneur): eBay, Airbnb, Instacart. (I think only eBay really qualifies) (more)
